| Customer Reviews: Good ole' Quo! April 30, 2009 David Wright 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It's a real shame that this particular gig has never been released on DVD, as this tour reflected Quo at the end of the Alan Lancaster era - a guy who was very understated, a great bass player and a more than passable chanter to boot. This was a great tour and all the Quo 'standards' were delivered with typical style and enthusiasm. I saw the band at the Glasgow Apollo on this particular "End of The Road" tour and confess to walking down to the edge of the upper circle balcony (the one Rossi so fondly refers to in the Live at The Apollo recordings) at the end of the show and thinking, "Surely this can't be the end for these guys?" - and as we know, they have kept on rockin' for another 25 years. As for reviewing the gig, well, what's to say? - Quo rarely put a foot wrong on stage and this one is no exception. I still have my VHS copy somewhere and who knows, maybe someone will decide that it is worthwhile releasing on DVD - there will be no shortage of takers!
A fireworks of a Quo live performance April 10, 2009 Kevin Doyle "irish rocker" (Dublin, Ireland) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This spectacular open-air Quo concert was filmed at the Milton Keynes Bowl on 21st July 1984. The band - Francis Rossi, Rick Parfitt, Alan Lancaster, Andy Bown & Pete Kircher - kick off with the classic 'Caroline' in broad daylight, before a crowd of over 40,000 fans.
Other tracks featured on this video include Roll Over Lay Down, Whatever You Want, Mystery Song, Railroad, Wild Side Of Life, Rockin' All Over The World, Dirty Water, Roadhouse Blues, What You're Proposing & Down Down.
This was the final show as part of their so-called End Of The Road Tour, when the band had decided to retire from gigging, after a period of over 20 years. When total darkness arrives, the band are saved by the stage lighting plus a spectacular fireworks display, as they urge the audience to singalong to the closing number 'Bye Bye Johnny'.
Although the Quo returned to the stage full-time in 1986 and have continued on ever since, there has never been another Quo gig quite like this one. Unfortunately, there are no plans to release it on DVD in the future, so if it's available to order on VHS via Amazon Marketplace, I would recommend to it all Quo fans, who don't already have it in their collection.
