Amazon.co.uk Review Disney's 1959 Sleeping Beauty was the studio's most ambitious effort to date, a lavish spectacle boasting a gorgeous waltz-filled score adapted from the music of Tchaikovsky. In the 14th century, the malevolent Maleficent (not dissimilar to the wicked queen in Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs) taunts a king that his infant Aurora will fatally prick her finger on a spinning wheel before sundown on her sixteenth birthday. This, of course, would deny her a happily-ever-after with her true love. Fortunately, some bubbly, bumbling fairies named Flora, Fauna and Merryweather are on hand to assist. It's not really all that much about the title character--how interesting can someone in the middle of a long nap be, anyway? Instead, those fairies carry the day, as well as, of course, good Prince Phillip, whose battle with the malevolent Maleficent in the guise of a dragon has been co-opted by any number of animated films since. See it in its original glory here, alongside Malificent's castle, which, filled with warthogs and demonic imps in a macabre dance celebrating their evil ways, manages a certain creepy grandeur. --David Kronke, Amazon.com

sleeping beauty June 29, 2010 M. L. Marshall arrived in good condition great classic movie grandaughter loves this movie very happy to recommend
DISNEY'S FIRST BLU-RAY FROM THE VAULTS DOESN'T DISAPPOINT June 21, 2010 Cheeky Monkey (Region 2) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Watched Sleeping Beauty last night. Wow! It looks a million dollars - well six million, actually, as that's how much it cost to make. It looks like it could have been made yesterday - except that Disney don't make animations like this anymore. I was also really impressed with the accompanying short film "Grand Canyon" (Despite much of it being 'staged'). It's taken TV 50 years to catch up and make natural history programmes with that amount of style and quality. Disney sure was a visionary. On to Pinocchio tonight!
bargain!!! June 15, 2010 mum of 3, N. E. lincs Bought this for my 4yr old daughter. She loves it. The price was excellent for a disney dvd. Its been watched so many times, brillent edition to any little girls collection.
Vintage Disney June 6, 2010 AnneM (Ireland) My daughter loves this DVD and it really is vintage Disney. It has all the ingredients to make a little girl happy and will appeal to any little princess.
A widescreen classic remastered. May 30, 2010 M. Biggins Disney's remastering onto Blu-Ray of "Sleeping Beauty" is quite amazing. Presented with a (up to) 7.1 DTS Master Audio soundtrack and a 2.55.1 (Cinemascope style) widescreen picture. I thought the previous DVD release version was good (approx seven years ago, the average Disney re-release window) but this, so far anyway, is the best version yet....untill.... whatever technological advances are made in the future.
