| Customer Reviews: I was dissapointed.... July 29, 2010 William Jenkins (Worthing, England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had quite high hopes for this movie.
This being the first movie outing in the Shippuden series I expected them to really push the boat out... I remember watching the first movie Ninja Clash In The Land Of Snow from the original Naruto series and being pretty impressed. I was expecting a similar effort here.... unfortunatly what you get is something that at times boarders on the quality of the filler episodes that ended the original series so poorly.
As was the case back then, main characters Neji and Rock Lee feel like they were shoe horned in at the last minuite just because they're popular characters, they serve little purpose other than that. The fight scenes were a majour dissapointment with none of them really feeling all that epic exept one scene with Naruto fighting some demonic dragon things in the intro... but even that scene was ruined a bit as it was shown twice!
One thing that certainly didn't intregue me about this movie was the idea of Naruto dieing... what a stupid plot device!! He's the main character and he has a whole series to get through before he can even think about kicking the bucket!!! OBVIOUSLY he isnt gonna die in a lame movie like this.
Ok it isn't totally lame... I was gripped from start to finish even if I felt really dissapointed by the time the credits rolled.
This movie is fine on a first viewing as you just arent too sure where they're gonna go with it. The story is bareable 1st time around aswell... but once youve seen it once you won't be in a hurry to watch it again.
Thanks for reading.
Good but not great July 21, 2010 T. R. Alexander (East Anglia, UK) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is the first of the movies for the `Naruto Shippuden' anime and while it does have some entertaining moments, it probably isn't as good as it could have been. The film sees the resurrection of a powerful demon and his invincible spirit army. The only way to defeat this great evil is for the Priestess of the Land of Ogres to perform a sealing ritual at a remote shrine and Naruto and his friend have to make sure she gets there. Added to this the Priestess has the power to predict when someone will die and she has some bad news for Naruto.
I am not really sure about this movie as while it does have some nice moments, it just doesn't feel right for some reason. The animation is okay but the CGI used for the spirit army does clash somewhat with the animation for the rest of the movie. The plot is a bit basic but it does have some nice moments here and there. The action is good though and there are some very funny moments now and again.
Overall I would say that this film is worth three and a half to four stars but it is nevertheless a film that any Naruto fan will want to watch.
