a welcome return May 29, 2010 Mr. D. E. Harman (uk) its about bloody time!!! 30 years since the specials started and this dvd brings back all the great songs and energy from the best ska band in the world.i saw them at the hammersmith apollo on the last night of this tour and this tops it all off as a great momento of this fantastic tour.the dvd captures everything you would want from a specials concert and is the next best thing if you were not able to see them live.i would recommend this dvd to any fan of great live music!!
Great music and region 0 May 5, 2010 C. Trent (Roy, wa United States) Just a correction to what amazon says. This disk is a region 0, not region 2 as listed. Most people should have no trouble playing this disk outside Europe. It is PAL format, so some dvd players may not play it but it will work fine on most all computers with a dvd drive. Power DVD played it just fine on my computer in the US.
Skaman - Rudi's Message April 29, 2010 Simon Worth waiting 27 years for! I saw the tour in Plymouth and this DVD shows the energy and passion The Specials still have for the music they play. The quality is excellent and the camera work captures the visual intensity of each band member brilliantly. Buy it, watch it and watch it again and again and again...........
Excellent Concert - DVD Audio mis-labelled though April 22, 2010 Easybourne This DVD features a great set and is thoroughly entertaining throughout. The band are on great form. This is definitely well worth a spin.
There is one (small) fly in the ointment though. The DVD packaging suggests that there is a DTS audio track present on this DVD when the only 5.1 sound option is Dolby Digital. (In practice, this isn't a problem as the Dolby Track sounds pretty decent). But, this isn't the end of the audio issues. There is a PCM audio track (as with many music DVDs), but bizarrely, this is mixed down to mono only. Surely an error?
Still don't let that spoil this otherwise great concert.
Pretty much as perfect as could be hoped for April 14, 2010 Caspersozza (London) If you're reading these reviews, considering buying the DVD, you were probably either at one of the shows or read one of the many reviews detailing how heart-stoppingly great they were. The very last thing you need me to explain to you is the musical genius or socio-political importance of The Specials.
So let's talk pure quality. I was at one of those legendary sold-out gigs - most exciting live show I've seen this millennium - and have a seriously good home cinema system. The latter will never and could never compensate for the former, but this DVD is a blindingly good record of the experience of being there. I was very, very pleasantly shocked when I saw this. Sound quality is excellent and the camerawork just kinetic enough to capture the excitement of the event without giving you a headache. For the relative pittance it costs, I can't think of any reason not to recommend buying it immediately, turning up the volume and enjoying one of the most welcome comebacks of recent Bitish musical history. With any luck (and good taste) your friends and loved ones will soon be skanking round the room with you.
