My rating is probably over-generous... June 9, 2010 Mrs. Fiona Wilton 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
I watched most of this film on the fast mode on my DVD player as it would have been a waste of life to watch it laboriously plough to the end. The plot centres on a group of girls who belong to an inner circle 'led' by a bohemian looking teacher. So far, so The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. I kept expecting the whole creme de la creme scene at any moment - and actually would have been thankful that Eva Green was speaking in her own language as I was never quite sure whether she was supposed to have a French accent or whether her attempt at an English one was just very bad indeed. Predictably an outsider comes into the group and oh she has a fatal flaw - quelle surprise. All is not what it seems and the film lurches predictably to a rather horrible and murky end. I've really enjoyed books such as The Secret History and The Lake of Dead Languages as well as Miss Jean Brodie, Dead Poets and the History Boys, but this film was quite a let down.
I Wanted More.... May 19, 2010 HGA Leese (UK) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
god this film is depressing it really gets across the emotion of living in the situation these girls were in! (not in a negative sense) The film is really beautifully shot, the landscape that the school is set in is lush, its quite a slow moving story but watching Eva Green helps the progress. its a good film over all but i did find myself wanting more scences with eva Greens character (Miss G) and Maria Valverde (Fiamma). Really good real acting especially by juno Temple i loved her because she really made you hate her character in the film she was a right bitch!I would recommend a similar movie to this it would be a film called loving annabelle this film has a happy ending though no crazy lady murderers!

Cracks is the tale of obsessive love in a 1930's girls boarding school, Enid Blyton it is not; expect to be shocked.
delicately beautiful April 27, 2010 S. Goffredi (Kent) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
A fantastic first film from Ms Scott and a fabulous performance from all the main characters, but especially Eva Green. This is a gentle and intelligent film that explores the dark side of love and infatuation. Ms Scott treats the story with delicacy and subtley that draw the viewer into the isolated world enhabitted by the characters. The cinematorgraphy is just lovely. This is definately not a film for people who want action and a fast pace, but if you want an inteligent film that explores human emotion and relationships and will stay with you long afterwards, then I can totaly recomend it.
