Amazon.co.uk Review Judi and Ron Barrett's Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is a much-loved, whimsical book about a tiny island where food falls from the sky like rain. The book serves as a jumping-off point for Sony's animated, digital 3-D Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs which is not so much a retelling of the book as an exploration of what makes food rain from the sky on a small island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Flint (Bill Hader), a clever young inventor with a reputation for creations gone awry, has recently completed a machine that he claims will turn water into food. Like his past failed inventions, Flint's new food-converting machine doesn't work as planned, and on its initial test run it ends up getting launched into the sky where clouds form and begin to rain cheeseburgers. The falling burgers destroy the Swallow Falls community's latest attempt to bolster its failing, sardine-dependent economy, but the Mayor's (Bruce Campbell) initial fury quickly turns to greedy anticipation as he begins to realize that food falling from the sky could serve as an innovative tourist draw. As the entire town is caught up re-defining itself as "Chew and Swallow," only Flint's father (James Caan) remains skeptical of his son's invention. Greed leads to some very strange weather events like spaghetti twisters and extra-giant food which, while providing a huge career opportunity for brainy weather intern Sam Sparks (Anna Faris) who's masquerading as an air-headed television personality, also threaten to destroy the town and its inhabitants. In the end, only the collaborative efforts of Flint, his father, and Sam can save the town of Chew and Swallow from certain destruction by the out of control invention. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is a funny, imaginative film that's well-animated and immensely entertaining for kids and adults. Rated PG for brief mild language, but appropriate for most ages 5 and older. --Tami HoriuchiStills from Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (Click for larger image)

cloundy with a chance of meatballs 3d July 25, 2010 Mr Jason Brown watched this movie in 2d when it first came out and thought it was great then bought it in 3d and was amazed at the quality of this product on my samsung 3d tvSamsung UE46C8000 - 46" 8 Series 3D LCD TV - widescreen - 1080p (FullHD) - LED backlight - brushed titaniumthe movie jumps out the screen into your living room would def recommened this movie in 3d. buy it now you to wont be disappointed
Fist class in next gen 3d July 18, 2010 J. A. johnston (Scotland) Been waiting months for 3d bluray to arrive and well worth it.
the pic quality was awesome most def on par with cinema with my 4 mtre 720 projector.
Film very entertaining for both adults and children alike.
for any using 3d vision i needed to purchase arcsoft plugin to get this movie working
Good Entertainment July 11, 2010 Single Mind (UK) My 6 year old grand daughter enjoyed this film and has watched it several times. Even my wife and I enjoyed it. The animation is very good and colours are excellent. I rated it 3 stars as, all in all, it was a good film but there are better. It was enjoyable, so I don't want to put people off buying it.
How does the 3D stand up ? July 7, 2010 Daniel James 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
All the other reviews here seem to just talk about the film....BUT WHAT ABOUT THE 3D?
I can tell you that I have just finished watching this in glorious 3D and it is the business.
Leaving the story behind I can say that the 3D experience is every bit as good as the cinema, if not better as I can sit at home with a beer and watch this one with the family.
I have tested this using the Samsung syncmaster 2233 3d lcd and the Acer H5360 projector, using the new and updated version of Cyberlink Powerdvd 10 installed on a Windows 7 pc with the nVidia 3D transmitter and glasses.
The Samsung has the same ghosting issues that all 3D LCD seems to have but the Acer H5360 projector was fantastic, no ghosting just amazing pop out imagery !
I have also tested this film in 3D with an Optoma HD67 with drivers acquired from the nVidia forums and it too is flawless in 3D playback.
If you have the kit for 3D gaming on the PC then all you need is the Powerdvd 10 software and today's latest update from their website and you are good for Bluray 3D. Also the Powerdvd software will convert ALL of your 2D media into 3D on the fly.
Hope this is a bit more informative than 'my Gran loved this film etc etc etc'.
Average entertainment. July 6, 2010 Hollie (UK) There's a lot of tough competition out there right now for CG kids' films, so to call this average is not really that much of an insult. But average it is, though still mildly entertaining.
Flint wants to be an inventor but his ideas never seem to work out, until one day he builds a machine that can turn water into food. Unfortunately the machine goes out of control and soon the whole world is under threat from giant mutated meal storms.
The animation is amongst the best I've seen, extremely colouful and fun. The characters are lovely and very well voiced. But unfortunately the story, though a great idea, isn't very well paced and it tended to drag often. There's the odd bit of amusing diologue but nothing to make you laugh out loud, most of the jokes were just too predictable.
So compared to others of it's kind this movie pales. Though in general it is a fairly entertaining watch but I doubt there are many who would bother to sit through it more than once or twice.
