Amazon.co.uk Review Nature’s Great Events takes up the mantle left by the stunning BBC series Planet Earth, and offers a closer look at some of the most fascinating and dramatic natural happenings on the planet. Narrated by David Attenborough, it digs in some detail into the impact on nature of certain events, and manages to hone in on small stories in the midst of major happenings. It’s a breathtaking cocktail. What particularly lifts Nature’s Great Events too is the stunning photography. Those who recall Planet Earth will recall just how superb the shots within that frequently were, but if anything, Nature’s Great Events tops it. The cinematography here is world-class, and it greatly enhances the series around it as a result. That said, there’s more than enough substance to Nature’s Great Events as it stands anyway. Diligently made and researched, and presented in an accessible, yet not condescending manner, it’s another major success for the BBC in this area, and further cements why it’s a world leader where natural history documentaries are concerned. Credit must go too for the decision to include the making-of material. Back when the BBC broadcast The Blue Planet, these were often just as interesting as the main feature itself, and the same is true here. It’s a genuinely fascinating insight into the production of such an ambitious, and unmissable, series. --Jon Foster

Excellent documentary July 23, 2010 R. Lewis (UK) Filmed in 1080i, but image quality and photography is stunning nonetheless. Truly remarkable and worth watching on Blu-Ray to fully appreciate the raw power and wonder of the natural world. I would recommend anyone to buy this.
Excellent Quality May 23, 2010 N. Cawsey (Bristol, England.) We bought this as a 'tryer' for our new blu-ray player and 1080p T.V. We weren't disappointed. The quality was excellent - really sharp - almost too sharp (if that is possible!) Particularly liked the episode about the spawning salmon and the brown bears waiting for them to leap the waterfalls.
It was recognised as 1080p - despite 1080i printed on cover (reason not giving 5 stars as rather misleading).Would recommend to anyone - David Attenborough nature programmes are always brilliant and the true H.D. make it even better.
dodgey second disk! March 28, 2010 L. Parker 0 out of 6 found this review helpful
I love David Attenborough so was very excited to buy this, loved all the episodes on the 1st disk, but unfortunately I didn't get to watch the final 3 episodes on the second disk, as the disk had a problem with it, it wouldn't load, froze my computer, and I tried it on many different computers and laptops, on closer inspection of the disk, there were loads of discoloured patches on the disk that couldn't be removed by wiping or polishing! I was very disappointed in the quality of the second disk, as the final 3 episodes would definitely have been the best! My advice is check both the disks first rather than waiting, as then you don't have time to return them. They also made the excuse that it was probably my fault, when it was the 1st time that I had taken the disk out of the box.
Superb! March 8, 2010 HappyInLondon (London, UK) 'Nature's Greatest Events' is a series of superb documentaries, about one hour long each. They cover different aspects (fauna, flora, landscape, etc...) of a particular event, and are all captivating.
The photography is fantastic. The commentary of David Attenborough very instructional and captivating. The 'Behind the scene' section following each documentary is as enjoyable as the documentaries themselves!
I thoroughly enjoyed this DVD and highly recommend it. I lived in Angola, Africa and went to the Okavango delta in Botswana, yet I learnt so much more about this ecosystem covering these 2 countries by watching the DVD!
I own (too?) many DVD series by BBC/Attenborough, and out of my extensive collection, this DVD is my favorite!
Death February 20, 2010 R. Ion 4 out of 13 found this review helpful
While featuring stunning images etc, this series seems to me to be centred on death. Mainly of baby animals. There's definitely more of that than in other nature documentaries.
I know nature is cruel and this is the reality of life in the wild, but for me it's just too much and I did not enjoy it.
