Delightful series continues April 22, 2010 Dr. Peter J. Harland This series of delightful stories continues into a fourth series. They move beyond the books by introducing some new characters, but retain their humour and high standard of acting and production. The stories are not all happy and the hard side of life in the Dales is emphasised. The DVDs are well produced. Those who enjoyed series three will not be disappointed though the stories have moved on some years since the start of the Second World War in series three and are now set in the early 1950s. This DVD is highly recommended.
Feel Good August 30, 2009 chirpyyorkshire (Yorkshire) As with all 'Creatures Great & Small' DVD's they tell a wonderful story about the Vet's life in the Yorkshire Dales. Can be watched time and time again. When the world outside is miserable then James Herriot's stories help take you away from it giving you the 'feel good factor'.
Good value for less than £1 an episode March 24, 2009 Elizabeth Goldsack (Midhurst, Sussex UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I nearly didn't persevere with this series knowing that there was going to be a new Helen, as to me the lovely Carol Drinkwater was so like the Helen in the books. However, Lynda Bellingham seems to fit the part just as well as her predecessor, in fact, she is very good and one soon forgets she is a replacement! I have only given the series four stars, though, as I felt that somehow it slows down a gear from the series 1-3, but it certainly has its funny moments and from what I understand later episodes pick up again, so it would be a pity to miss these ones out. Do watch the Christmas specials first though, if you can, as they form a vital bridge between series 3 and 4, and explain a little how the war affected this family and practice.
All Creatures Great & Small March 15, 2009 B. W. Knowles (Crete) Having watched All Creatures Great & Small years ago when it first came out it was a pleasure to see it again, what a good series.
DVD's of poor quality March 2, 2009 Ludie Henning 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We are very sad because 2 of the 3 DVD's are of poor quality. Stop, starts, freezing etc. We have tested it on 2 DVD players with the same result. The Series are great but be carefull !!!
