Amazon.co.uk Review Rowan Atkinson's irredeemably wicked Edmund Blackadder has moved forward in time from the court of Queen Elizabeth but a little down the social ladder. He's now butler to Hugh Laurie's congenitally stupid Prince Regent on the cusp of the 18th and 19th centuries, and if that wasn't bad enough he's still accompanied by Tony Robinson's dim-witted Baldrick, whose cunning plans never fail to make an impossible situation worse. Blackadder's desperate scheming and utter contempt for all he surveys hasn't changed, nor have the baroque complexities of the situations in which he becomes embroiled: from an anachronistic war of words with Dr Johnson (Robbie Coltrane relishing every syllable) to taking on the Scarlet Pimpernel at his own game, to fighting a duel with a psychopathic Duke of Wellington, Edmund's luck never seems to change. Richard Curtis and Ben Elton's sharp scripts have more fun with the period setting than ever before, as contemporary literary archetypes from Samuel Johnson to Jane Austen are ripe for lampooning. Howard Goodall's theme tune is updated to a glorious classical pastiche, while the extravagant costumes of the times hardly need altering to achieve the desired effect. The comedy is so good it seemed this could never be bettered, until Blackadder Goes Forth that is. --Mark Walker

Blackadder lessons for life July 19, 2010 Laura A. Hamilton (Bourne End, Bucks .) All of "Blackadder 3" make my family and me laugh aloud, but two in particular provide us with lessons for life as well. "Ink and Incapability" definitely expand our vocabulary with tongue-twisting words we will NEVER use, even if we remember them. "Amy and Amiability" teaches us how to make the most diplomatically correct observances ever in the way Blackadder speaks to the father of the Prince Regent's anticipated bride. Astute and memorable for wit and humour.
buy it June 2, 2010 K. Bennett (London UK) In my opinion, the best out of series 2, 3 and 4 (obviously series 1 doesn't count).
It can't do any wrong. April 6, 2010 Ben Nicholson (Landrake, Saltash, Cornwall, UK) It's another laughable, silly and great series. Like series 2 and 4 It's a must have. I can't do it justice so all I can say is it's probably the greatest comedy's of all time. Just buy it.
Almost as funny as the fourth series February 19, 2010 Andreas Faust (Tasmanian Autonomous Zone) In this series Blackadder has declined in status since the Elizabethan days of series two and is now a mere butler to the Prince Regent (during the French Revolution/Napoleonic era). 'Blackadder 3' is worth watching just for Hugh Laurie's hilarious performance as the air-headed Prince George (he would also appear as the equally air-headed Lieutenant George in series four).
Perhaps the funniest episode is 'Duel and Duality', in which the Prince and Blackadder swap roles, and the highly aggressive Duke of Wellington (Stephen Fry) proceeds to beat the Prince senseless for talking back to his betters. Those who like sadistic slapstick comedy in the British tradition will find this is up there with Basil Fawlty's treatment of Manuel in 'Fawlty Towers'.
Another standout episode is 'Ink and Incapability' where Robbie Coltrane guest stars as Samuel Johnson (who anachronistically is also friends with Byron, Shelley and Coleridge). When Baldrick admits he threw the only copy of Johnson's 'Dictionary' on the fire, Blackadder must rewrite the whole thing from scratch.
'Dish and Dishonesty' is another really funny one, concerning Blackadder's attempts to influence the outcome of a British election, in order to defeat Pitt the Younger (and his brother Pitt the Even Younger). Unfortunately Baldrick spends all the bribe money on a gigantic turnip.
'Blackadder 3' is one of the best Blackadder seasons, and is almost on a par with the superlative fourth series. Hours of laughter guaranteed.
blackadder3 January 8, 2010 road nomad (ebbw vale wales) brilliant comedy series with rowan atkinson& co.blackadder is up there with "only fools & horses" as a classic bbc comedy series.my favourite blackadder series is "blackadder goes forth".
